I tend to think that most artists’ statements are needless. I believe that the work should speak for itself and that any given work of art may have different subjective meanings for different viewers. While my paintings are deliberate, I don't mind if people see meaning I didn't intend. This is one reason my paintings' titles are simple and serial. All that being said, I think that it is relatively important for me to have a conceptual framework that I build my work around. What that framework consists of for me is a mix of disparate influences; Basquiat, Miro', Klee, pop art, comic books, graphic novels (Chris Ware), pulp fiction art, and urban decay. Over time I have built a cast of reoccurring themes, characters, and moods. I am trying to build a small world that these elements exist within. Maybe in that world my reoccurring characters interact with the chaos of their surroundings with good results...at least I hope.
